One person he turned to was Professor James “Crash” Ryan of the University of Minnesota who, before the days of crash test dummies, used himself as a test subject to make sure his newly invented retractable seat belt and other safety features actually worked.

A year after releasing “Ranger” with an eclectic group of musicians known as the Rangers, produced by KBFT Records, Ojibwe singer-songwriter Keith Secola is gearing up to release more music into the world — including a single and music video called “Broken Down Hero” this October, and a new album with Ishkōdé Records in February. KFAI’s Sheila Regan caught up with Secola to learn about his songwriting process and his collaboration with Rich Matteson of Sparta Sound in Gilbert, Minnesota.
