Krill, the Boston-formed indie rockers who recently reunited in Chicago, have lined up their first LP in a decade. Returning to longtime label Exploding in Sound, the band will release Secret Language on November 13. Singer-bassist Jonah Furman says in a press release, “‘Dominate’ is a song about growing up in the 90s and 00s in the heart of empire, the violence of wanting to win, how we teach our children to want to dominate others, a US TV culture of watching gladiator-like scenes of rule by power. It’s about war, it’s about basketball, it’s about childhood.” The band has lined up headline shows in Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia, as well as a slot at Some Fest in Maine.

Since splitting in 2015, after releasing Distant Fist Unclenching and a companion EP, Krill have played a pair of reunion shows, reissued their debut, and released a 2020 album as Knot—which, the band says now, is retroactively a Krill album, “because it's easier that way.” The reunion, Furman adds, came about when Ovlov invited them to open a Chicago show. He enlisted longtime Krill drummer Ian Becker and the guitarist Andrew Clinkman, eventually bringing Patter’s Seth Engel aboard to produce and engineer the album. Finom violinist Macie Stewart, Fran’s Maria Jacobson, and Trigger saxophonist Will Greene all contribute to the LP.
