On September 27, 1722, Samuel Adams was born in Boston, Massachusetts. A political organizer, writer, and uncompromising opponent of British rule, Adams became one of the Revolution’s most effective architects.

He resisted taxation without representation and used newspapers, committees of correspondence, and town meetings to unite colonists around the cause of liberty. Royal Governor Thomas Hutchinson regarded him as an incendiary; patriots recognized a leader unwilling to trade principle for official favor.

Adams served in the Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence, and helped secure Massachusetts ratification of the Constitution. The ratifying convention recommended amendments designed to protect individual liberty before Americans entrusted greater authority to the federal government.

His example remains timely. Liberty survives when citizens organize, speak plainly, and distrust concentrated power. A government that claims authority to regulate arms must remain subordinate to the Constitution and the people. Samuel Adams understood that rights endure only when citizens possess the steadfast individual courage, vigilance, and determination to defend them.
