"Her heart............ I don't know how to say....."
I felt a pang of sadness as he struggled to look for the right words to explain how he'd lost his sister. He was barely twenty.
--------------------------------------------------
"My grandfather, he died during the Khmer Rogue," our tuk-tuk driver revealed casually, as if pain and strife were normalised in his world. He had eyes of a curious child, and wore the innocence of a teenage boy. We could not have guessed that he was 23.
--------------------------------------------------
Thank you Cambodia, I am truly humbled by the determination of your people to rebuild their lives around atrocities which should never have been permitted. God bless your children - may they live healthy and grow strong, God bless your women - may they be forever safe and unshackled, and God bless your men - may they always have the strength to protect and provide, and never to have their loved ones taken away ever again. |

| Why we shout in anger |

A Hindu saint who was visiting river Ganges to take bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples smiled 'n asked.
'Why do people shout in anger shout at each other?'
Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout.'
'But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner.' asked the saint
Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples. Finally the saint explained, .
'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.
What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small...'
The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper 'n they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other 'n that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'
He looked at his disciples and said.
'So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.'

“She came home from the hospital after her father passed covered in tears. I started crying and kept asking her ‘What can I do for you? Tell me how I can help’…And she looked up at me and said ‘Just hold me..’cause you’re the only thing that can fix me right now.’ ” -Chris Martin on the inspiration for ‘Fix You’ |

"A lot of dogs get put to sleep because too many of them are abandoned and there's not enough space to house them. Some of the dogs that get put to sleep are old, and then there are the dogs that don't ever get adopted because they aren't cute. I mean, would you adopt an ugly dog?"
"I would, if it needs a home."
Thank you for the reminder - you are beautiful and I hope you grow up remembering what you taught me. |

Yesterday I had a conversation with an lady - she was probably in her mid forties, grossly overweight, and wore very unsexy, tousled hair - basically someone I wouldn't talk to on a usual day. But as she got dragged towards me by her leashed dog at the dog park, I found myself striking up a conversation with her. Her dog was wearing a cone collar, so I asked her about it. She told me about how her dog had developed some skin condition and couldn't stop scratching itself, so the vet made her dog wear it. And because the condition lasted for quite awhile, her dog got used to the cone collar and would get upset whenever she took it away. I found her story amusing and went on to tell her about how Buddy feigned injury and walked with a limp when she recovered from a hind leg injury some time back.
I know this all sounds very inconsequential but I found the conversation quite amazing. Amazing because the conversation was very real, and none of us cared about anything else except to listen to the other person |

"Your father had a heart attack."
She recognised the way her mother delivered that piece of news - it was in the exact tone, that unapologetic tone that her mother had told her about her grandmother's death when she was 10. Approximately four years later, in the same untrained, careless manner, her mother struck again.
"It's these things that cause people to die."
That child had taken biology class in school. She had learnt about the pulmonary artery, the aorta, the superior vena cava - names of veins and arteries - channels that connected to the heart to the rest of us. She had also, incidentally, watched her teacher snip a thick and succulent blood vessel of a dead animal's heart. She did not have to imagine a heart attack. She knew exactly what it was like when channels were broken. When arteries ballooned and exploded. That poor child. |

| It's not the thought that counts |

Really bugs me when people buy me things that I dislike because I'm the kind of person who either likes or dislikes material objects. And I don't know what to do when someone gives me something that I dislike - most of the time I keep it on display for a few days, then it starts to bother me, and eventually I get rid of it(shelve, box, whatever keeps it out of my sight).
For me, it's not just the thought of sending me a gift that counts. It's sending me a gift that you know I'll like that counts. It's knowing that I'm the girl who either likes or dislikes things that counts. You either get it or you don't. And apparently, quite sadly, you still don't understand me. |

I am blessed because I had a friend appeared at my doorstep last night just to see if I was doing well. And that was everything I needed in that situation - thanks for caring. |
