Here's a little update to let you know how the first weekend of early season racing went for the folks on the Niner Team....
Valley of the Sun
Tim Allen, of Flagstaff, AZ kicked off the season by taking 1st place in his category at the Valley of the Sun Road Race. This 3 day event consisted of a time trial, road race and criterium, with the winner holding the least amount of cumulative time over the three events. Kick ass Tim!!
24 Hours in the Old Pueblo
Dejay and Rebecca both pulled top finishes at the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo, with 1st and 2nd places in their respective single speed solo male and female categories. Dejay rode strong and held on to his undefeated reputation at the largest 24 hour race in the country.
Rebecca rode through a variety of mechanicals, including an exploded rear hub, gashed tire, double flat, and loss of light during a night lap, holding onto 2nd place against a strong Lynda Wallenfels.
Mas O Menos
John "Fuzzy" Mylne put forth a valiant effort at the 100K Mas O Menos Marathon in Big Bend, TX. He started off this 2 lap race strong, riding in the top 5 lead pack, and feeling good. After triple flatting and using up his supplies, Fuzzy was forced to call it a day, and end the race early.

Mechanicals notwithstanding, this was a strong start to the season for Niner/Ergon Team. We'll keep you posted as race stories and results continue to filter in.

| It's Raining |

A bit of wetness is strolling through the Ol'Pueblo. This put the trails in great riding condition come Saturday. The washes and drainages will be filled with more water (that you'll have to ride threw), but it will be warm. They're calling for 45-70+ degrees. So your wet feet will be warm at least.
I had 7 bikes show up at the shop yesterday. From places like Vermont and Minnesota. Pretty cool.
It sounds like the Flagstaff posse will be showing up in full effect. Maybe 20 large.

| Oh Ya it's the New Year |

I like my friends, I like when my friends send me things, I like when my friends send me friends!
Right there in the middle, to the left of the american express card, is my new friend. It came from the one and only "Dickness". I can only hope what I sent him can be considered a friend as well. The first person to give me the correct number of magnets on my fridge (not stickers, but magnets)wins NOTHING!!
Sometimes it snows in or around Tucson. Last Sunday, I made a little trip to the east, Rincon MTNs.
That's a good amount of snow for the desert.
O look that's Rebecca, Roomate Dan and it appears Mark has fallen of the back. But the real story of the day was how Dan forgot that he did NOT re-install his cleats. OOOPPPPS. But he sucked it up and did the ride in his running shoes and candy pedals. Dan, you too Win nothing. Sorry, but good effort!!!
Tomorrow I will go ride the SSAZ09 course, or should I say design it? I'll bring my GPS and see if it works and maybe there will be a handy map in the future, that is if anyone will make me a handy map. Any Takers?
I also will be riding a new bike, Please close your eyes. Now on the count of three. Don't peek!!! 1.....2......Three
Now I know what your thinking or at least I pretend I do and all I can ask is that you keep Thinking. |

(not because Dicky said so) Or some same Razorback Pig, I prefer Javelina. It was a wintery day in and around Tucson today. Myself and Shope decide to head off to the 50 year trail and fight the chill in the air along with the rain. I can't say it enough there is nothing like the smell of wet desert, a wet thriving desert with dirty little piggies running around. Not us, but the Javelina. You are a lucky bunch if you catch a view of these guys, but if they are around, you are sure to smell them.
They are out there!!!
Last week I took a little working trip over to Ohio. Columbus in fact, to do a little promoting of the Niner Brand at Roll. roll-online.com Check it out a very different kind of shop. If you live in the Columbus area consider yourself lucky.
I was given the full treatment of a winter storm. In Ohio that means snow, ice and damn cold. The roads were to sloppy to be driven on, when we attempted to go for a proper ride, so we resorted to hours of WII tennis and drinking. We also set plans for Bike Polo the following day. 8:30am, 4 inches of snow and 21 degrees...SURE!
WE had about 12 folks manning mallets and a great game. There were some issues with clipping in though
But the field took the biggest beating
Thanks to everyone for showing me such a great time, I hope I get to repay the favor soon, maybe SSAZ 1/24/09
