This Month in the Search for Life: August 2026
This month brings a new way to see remote planets, a spacecraft idea for scouting resources across the Solar System, fresh clues about the way planets form, and even a surprise from Pluto.
SETI AIR Newsletter - September 2026
SETI AIR artists continue to shift perspectives across scales and disciplines, with exhibitions, talks, awards, and new projects spanning data, artificial intelligence, planetary systems, and more.
The SETI Institute and ETH Zurich join forces to search for the origin of life
The question of how life originated and whether it exists elsewhere in the universe has fascinated humanity for centuries. Now, ETH Zurich and the SETI Institute in California are joining forces to seek answers.
Researchers Propose Searching the Moon for Microscopic Technosignatures
A new study led by SETI Institute Affiliate Scientist Dr. Lewis Pinault outlines a new approach to the search for extraterrestrial intelligence: examining lunar regolith for microscopic engineered particles that may have accumulated over billions of years.
The latest industry news, interviews, technologies, and resources.
What We Do
At the SETI Institute, we explore the origins of life, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, and the mysteries of the cosmos. Through cutting-edge research, education programs, and public outreach, we strive to expand humanity's understanding of the universe.
We lead scientific investigations into planetary environments, astrobiology, and the search for life beyond Earth.
Our educational initiatives inspire and train the next generation of scientists, fostering curiosity and innovation.
We engage the public with space science and discovery, making complex scientific ideas accessible and exciting for all.

How SETI Designed A Telescope To Look For Extraterrestrial Civilizations
In 2025, we invited Scott Manley for a tour of the Allen Telescope Array in Hat Creek, CA. Take an in-depth look of the facilities and research happening at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory!
Support the
SETI Institute
Scientists are getting closer in their search for life beyond earth. But with limited federal funding for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, supporters are the reason cutting-edge scientists can keep their eyes on the sky.
