I'm waiting for it to start glowing..

It's been a while, and the GC has transferred hands a few times. Here's a synopsis:

  • Mom (while on her mission) sent it to Shannon for her birthday.
  • I stashed it in the liner of Tasha's suitcase when we went to pick mom up after her mission.
  • Fearing that she'd never find it, I clued mom in on where it was.
  • Tasha quickly passed it back to mom (I don't know how..)
  • Mom sent it back to us when I asked her for some books.
  • And now I sent it to Kip in a care package.

Beware of Kips sneakiness.

Kindness given to a Missionary~

I was on my mission in the Missouri Independence Mission in October of 2015. I was very surprised and pleased that I got a package from my son Cory. When I opened it, it warmed my heart because he sent me some Quik. He knows how much I thrive on my daily dose of chocolate milk.
I put it in my cupboard for a few weeks. I mean, I took six GIANT Quik cans with me on my mission, and I hadn't used them all up (after only two months). When I ran out of the six, I got his can out to use it. Much to my surprise...
Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Cory!

Filler

I really don't remember how we got it, but I think it came in one of mum's "care" packages.

TSA Nightmare!

Cory needs to write how he got the GCS before he gave it to me.

I was on one of my frequent visits to Phoenix last month, when I received a surprise. I didn't know it, but when Cory put my carry-on luggage in the car to take me to the airport, he stuck in the GCS. I was merrily going my way through the security checkpoint, when there seemed to be a disturbance in the x-ray machine area. I went through the scanner, and was waiting on the other side for my bag. They kept backing up the machine and looking again and again. The guy looking called over his supervisor, and he also looked.

Finally they decided to let the bag go through on the conveyor belt. But they called someone else and notified them that they would have to do a bag check. I was a bit surprised, but thought, "Oh well, what could I have to hide?"

The guy got my bag and put it on a table. He said to me, "Stand back, and don't try to touch anything in the bag while I am looking at it." Whatever, I thought. He unzipped the flap. There right on the top of my stuff was the GCS. I burst out laughing. He looked at it, picked it up, and said, "What is this!?" I didn't know how to explain it to him in brief, understandable and intelligent language. I said, sheepishly, "It's a Grilled Cheese Sandwich." He said, "It's a what?" I said it again, and I could see he didn't understand what I was saying, or at least believe me. He looked at me for an explanation. I tried to think of an easy way to explain it. After stumbling around for a few sentences, he finally accepted my description of why I had a moldy, resin-encrusted GCS in my luggage. I told him I didn't know it was even there, as my son had so kindly slipped it in before dropping me off at the airport.

He laughed, and said, "You never know what you're going to see at the airport!" Then he went back to his buddies at the x-ray machine, and told them what the mystery object was! They all looked at me, shook their heads, and laughed.

A Present and a Half

I don't know how Kip got the GCS, but Natasha received a nice present from them before they left my house (Family Reunion 2008). It was a nicely boxed GameBoy. She was very surprised!

Thanks, Kip and Kristin!

The people I work with are fine... Its my family I have trouble with

Christmas at Grandma's house was a blast! I burned a bagel. Twice. Maybe Mom should get out the resin.

We got to Parkers and realized we'd been tagged. At the bottom of the kids bag was our favorite little resin encrusted sandwich. I heard Kristin screaming from all the way downstairs.

But I'm happy to report that the sandwich is no longer in our possession...

Do YOU trust the people you work with?

The lesson I learned is much like the one that Morpheus taught Neo in the Matrix, everyone around you can become an accomplice. Look around you, how many more victim's hands will this evil sandwich pass through?

One day last summer (yes, I had it that long) I went into work on a typical Tuesday morning expecting nothing. I said a few hellos and good mornings as I crossed the cube farm to my small plot of workspace. I sit and reach for my mouse.. but am foiled.. something is in the way.. "Ahhhgg, NOOOO!!!!" Click!

Way to go Chad, I was surprised alright. But my heart goes out to all those friends or acquaintances whose hands have become (and will become) corrupt by this sick and twisted family heirloom.

For Sale...

You most likely all know by now that Mom is working for a Real Estate Agent. This agent, let's call her Shawndra K. .... NO..... that's too obvious... how about S. Kirkham. Yes, the said S. Kirkham is not only mom's beloved boss, but she also was the incredibly talented negotiation queen that helped Angie and I sell our condo about a year ago. Needless to say, we were so impressed by her ability that we have been referring just about everyone we know to her for all of their Salt Lake Real Estate needs. Now someone looking at us from the outside just might stop dead in their tracks and say, "hey... wait a minute... hold on there!!! Don't you refer people because of the referral bonus she so generously gives?" And if you were to ask such a bold faced question I would say, "my sir, you have a lot of nerve." Angie and I would still refer people to her even if she had no incentive to do so. She is THAT good.

So what does this all have to do with the GCS you might ask. Well let me tell you. Shortly after referring Mom to the said S., Angie and I received a "thank-you" gift card for the referral. Later we heard that Mother Dearest was in the process of applying to work for the said S. Nearly one week had passed following her job acquisition when we received yet another "thank you" package in the mail. On the outside of the box was a handwritten note from the said S. thanking us for referring the said M..... sorry, forgot whose identity I was protecting, thanking us for referring Mom to her.

At the time we received the box I didn't think ill of the notion in the least bit. I thought to myself, "boy the said S. must be elated to have met Mom." Upon placing that final period at the end of my thought, a deep rooted feeling of dread began to grip my soul. Like a lethal plume of noxious gas, the air in the box shot out and surrounded my entire head. I found myself staring into the eyes of the dreaded GCS. I knew I didn't have much time so I quickly forced my eyes closed and ripped my head to the side in order to pull myself out of it's treacherous grasp. As I did so, a chuckle emanated from the deceptive confines of that sweet woman's box. I quickly resealed the box and placed it back on the table the way I found it. For the rest of the afternoon my soul ached for the said S. It had become apparent that she had fallen pray to the siren songs of the GCS and all of its bitterly wonderful opportunities. "This device of Satan must be stopped!!! How many more innocent bystanders must be dragged down by its corrupting grasp?"

And then Angie came home....... ......... .......and..... ...... ......... I don't know what came over me...... but ..... ...... ...... I let her open the box without warning. She shrieked, twisted, and writhed with painful anguish. Curses began to descend against the loathed GCS. She stashed it back in the box and rushed over to me and got right in my face and said, "I need answers!!! Keep it secret. Keep it safe." (LOTR reference in case you were wondering) and she headed down the hall to sanitize her hands.

As I stood there I felt a void beginning to consume my mind. It was a familiar place, one that emanates from the GCS and the GCS alone. I stood there in the middle of that empty, dead space wondering what to do or where to go next. As I searchingly stared off into the darkness, a light came on directly above my head. Slowly my eyes began to adjust to the new illumination which eventually began bringing 2 figures into focus. I immediately recognized the crooked smile of the GCS as it lay there hoping to be loved once again... It was horrifyingly beautiful and absolutely dreadful at the same time. And just as if someone had hit the rewind button on this bizarre vision, each of the characters began rapidly moving backwards for what seemed like 2 or 3 minutes. I stood there watching in reverse sequence the events that led the GCS out of my possession and into the possession of another. The clarity was remarkable and finished almost as fast as it began. And there I was..... back in my living room with Abby pulling at my leg hairs and listening to the pipes knock around in the wall as Angie turned off the water. A smile crept upon my face and I called out to Angie, "Hey dear..... I think I have an idea..."

And now the wheels are in motion.......
