I know I have been long absent (just super busy with work and with travel and with fun). And I know this post isn't even about NYC. But, it is about something near and dear to my heart: delving into my current favorite fandom. In this case, the TV show Rizzoli & Isles... So bear with me and I do hope to get back to blogging about my adventures in and around NYC soon enough!
I was looking for a single sentence, a single thought, that would sum up my experience at RizzlesCon2012 this past weekend and I feel that the quote above is it (with 'Karaoke anyone?', 'Starbucks run; you want anything?' 'Because who *doesn't* want to spend Sunday seeing an autopsy chest and listening to a coroner talk?', 'Yes, of course we'll have another round', 'We're going to IHOP!', 'Fan-Rizzles-tastic', all close seconds).
But I digress.
As I was saying: Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out. For, if you haven't heard, this is what happened. Two fans – just regular ol' fans – organized what was shaping up to be a Rizzoli & Isles spectacular. A three day convention filled with the cast and crew of the show as well as true life law-enforcement and entertainment industry people. Then Warner Brothers decided to be...oh, let's go with dicks 'non-supportive'. After months and months of being aware of what was going on and saying nothing, on the eve of the Convention – literally on the eve of the convention – they pulled the plug and made all cast and crew 'unavailable'. Nice.
So those of us that had purchased tickets and travelled all the way to Anaheim had two choices: throw ourselves a pity-party or just throw ourselves a party. We chose the latter. And, seriously, what a party it turned out to be. Friends, laughter, bad singing, fascinating lectures and demonstrations, putting faces to names on a screen, having the pleasure of people tell me "I love that blog!" when I told them I run the R&I text from last night tumblr, camaraderie, a #flatrizzles invasion/revolution (which tended to lead to more laughter), and just plain fun, were the order of the weekend.
Now, I admit that I would be lying if I said I didn't still have some disappointment that the cast and crew weren't there. So I'm not going to say I'm not. Because I *am* disappointed. Of course I am. But that was not going to stop me (and everyone else that stuck it out) from having an absolute blast anyway.
Okay, that was the summary. The details are below (and fair warning there's LOTS of details, probably quite boring to many of you). But first two more notes. First, this is *my* experience so it has a lot of pictures of me and what I did and what I enjoyed. Other people's experiences may vary, obviously, but this is what it was for me. Second, I'm a crime show junkie, unabashedly so. As I've told family and friends, if there's murder or a courtroom, I'm probably going to like it. I'm also a geek so attending lectures and learning new things is actually something I love doing. As such, the lectures at this con were right up my alley. And it's details of alllll those lectures, more than anything else, that you'll find below. Again, fair warning. :D
