Co-starring with this lead character is a literary interviewer, a cultural commentator, a serious bibliophile and book/magazine collector, and a promoter of literary tourism

I’ve been collecting vintage magazines for six or seven years now. I hunt for excellence: striking covers, strong typography, exciting choreography, stylish page layouts; dramatic, eye-catching provocative photographs, skilful illustration, outstanding writing; alluring, persuasive, advertisements. Fashion and art magazines are of particular interest because they’re often the ones spearheading changes in visual culture. Celebrities are also a draw because of their popular appeal.

I’m now selling the duplicates.

Being a “literary tourist” means many things to many people: browsing used bookshops, participating in book festivals, visiting authors’ homes, admiring special collections libraries, attending playsâ€Ķ

For me, it’s all of these — plus the pleasure of meeting and interviewing exceptional people who write, make, sell and/or just love books.
