Yeah, still no drawing again. Blergh. It's frigging impossible to get the computer to myself, because Dave is neck deep in editing this music video for over a month now. We need a 2nd computer in this house, desperately. That needs to be a goal for this year as well: build a new computer that Dave can use for his video editing.
He also has it in his mind that he is going to write a romance novel this weekend and put it up on Kindle store by Monday. So guess who gets to design the front cover? Yep that'd be me. So now that I finally have the computer to myself, I have to spent my time looking on Shutterstock for an image we can buy. *sigh*
We're supposed to get a mammoth snowstorm here tonight, so hopefully Dave & I won't cabin fever each other to death by Monday!

Well, I didn't draw anything today. It wasn't for lack of trying. I did attempt a few things, but I seemed like I had pretty crappy control over the pen (stylus?) today, so I kept scrapping everything. I need to look up some tutorials and figure out how to change the brush sizes & remap the buttons and stuff. Of course, I didn't even get on the computer until after 8pm, thanks to Dave. Whee.
We have an older Mac Power PC that's been gathering dust, and I was going to try to hook it up and see if I could get a newer version of Photoshop or some drawing program on there, so I can try to work even when he's monopolizing the PC -- but I seem to have mislaid any spare monitor cables I had about. I *know* we have spares around, but I'll be damned if I can find them tonight. So that plan stalled before it even got out of the gate. I'll try to work on it this weekend.
I suppose tomorrow I need to go over to my parents' house and hook up their receiver and bluray player for them. This has been an all-week project, since their first receiver that arrived from Amazon was dead on arrival. The replacement came today, but since it decided to snow last night, and I only slept about 4 hours, I wasn't about to go over there and mess with it tonight. So that'll be after work tomorrow. Joy.

In keeping with my goal of attempting to do new things this year, I have plugged in our Wacom tablet and started drawing. Which I have never done IN MY LIFE. I've never been talented in this way, but after years of reading webcomics, and recently watching some livestreams of Gabe from Penny Arcade, and Kris Straub, drawing their comics live, I've decided, why not?! I have Photoshop (legally, for the first time ever), and we have a tablet that is literally gathering dust.
So, here's my first drawing. Not too impressive, but given that I have no skill whatever, I'm pretty proud of it. The choice to draw Popeye was not super meaningful or anything - I just happened to have a Popeye action figure sitting here in front of me, which I used for reference. The most difficult part for me was the eyes and eyebrows, so I just kinda threw them on there. I'm really pleased with the overall shape of his head and especially his mouth and pipe.
I hope to try to draw something every day, as that's the only way to learn!

Actually using the gym membership Ive been paying for. Stop eating fast food every single goddamn day! Lose at least 50 pounds by December 31, 2014. If this means getting a trainer at the gym, find a way to make it happen.
Take time at least once a week to do something that I enjoy and that will benefit me in the future, whether its recording a song, writing, learning to do something new. Stop living day to day, week to week, in a fog of the same old daily grind, and try to find my inspiration somewhere.
Manage to stay current on bills and save enough money to go to PAX or DragonCon in September.
Try to either budget a way to fix some of the broken beat up disgusting crap in our house, or figure a way to move. (Pipe dream!)

I know I haven't posted on here in forever, but I'm excited that I'm leaving this afternoon for Dragon*Con in Atlanta! Thanks to some awesome friends, Dave & I are leaving tonight & coming back on Monday. So epic to get to spend a couple days with my internet friends that I otherwise have to just chat with all year long. :)

Oh hey, it's time for my semi-annual post. Whee!
Still jobless. Still clueless. Nothing new on that front at all. Filled out my FAFSA, now I just need to figure out what to do on that front. With my nearly crippling laziness, probably nothing.
Only thing somewhat productive I've gotten up to lately was recording myself doing a cover of "Falling Slowly" from Once. http://snd.sc/feS6Do In case anyone wants to listen to it. I did the best I could to drop out the original vocals with Audacity, but the word "noob" doesn't even begin to cover how noobish I am in things audio related, so yeah.. :)
My project for today *was* going to be making a pop screen to put in front of my mic, & maybe attempt to cover another song. But at the moment, I'm attempting to get my lapsed car insurance reinstated. Whoops. That's what happens when you have 100% bills and only about 50% money. :/ Yeah.
In brighter news, my in-laws' friend Lee wants me to build him a computer, & he's given them a $1200 advance on it, based on the parts list I worked up yesterday. Of course, I can't order any parts or buy anything yet because THEY have the money, not me. *sigh* But yeah. So that should be fun. I need to try to work out what to charge him for my labor. Ideally I'd like to charge him about $500 (believe me, money's not a problem for him), so that I can pay off my wonderful State Income Tax bill that we owe right now since they didn't take any State tax out of either my unemployment for last year OR the 401K that I had to close out for us to live off of. But I guess we'll see.
OK, back to trying to make ends meet. Wheee.
