Ribbons!
Yes, today was the day the whole class went to the State Fair. I deliberately drove, and arranged with the teacher to take my daughter home afterwards, so that I could spend some extra time there. Good thing, too, because while on the field trip we didn't even go in the home arts building, like we did last time. It was a rushed trip, and we got to see the agriculture displays, and a show, and then we zoomed through a few animal buildings, seeing goats, sheep, pigs, and a few cattle.
After I delivered the rest of my little charges to the bus, #1Daughter and I went to the home arts building and combed through the displays until we found my entries. One first place and two second place ribbons!
This first place ribbon was for a pair of socks I made for #1Son for Christmas, though I do believe it was mid-January when he received them. As he wears out his socks quickly, I did a lot of colourwork on the heels and toes, all the way up the instep, to give him plenty of reinforcement. These were entered in the children's sock category as an amateur.
The second socks I entered were also children's socks, and she told me I couldn't enter two into one category (Duh, I had read that in the handbook, why hadn't it sunk in!) So she put them in General Knitting, and I'm not sure if that was a children's category or just totally general. These were a simpler pair of socks but the yarn was hand-dyed with koolaid. These were the Christmas socks for #1D but she at least got them on time.
I entered the dress in the advanced amateur category. Although I made it for a party, it didn't seem to fit with the category of "party dress", which I knew would be ruffles, poofs, and lace, so I put it in the category of "children's casual dress". With the patchies and the embroidery, it seems more in the casual category, even if it is a lil stuffy.
