6 Reasons I Don’t Like Autumn

I’m making an attempt to compose posts when the mood strikes. I subscribe to John from The Sound of One Hand Typing post notifications via email. He’s also a long time 4M partner and occasionally I join his Writer’s Workshop. On Tuesdays, he publishes six writing prompts to stimulate the brain hoping it’ll help writers to unleash a hidden story inside. Today, I’m borrowing one from his list that I found intriguing.

If autumn is your favorite season, give reasons why it isn’t. If it’s not your favorite season, tell why it is.

Autumn is my favorite season, so I’m going to share with you reasons why it isn’t.

I do not like autumn for these reasons.

Allergies. East Tennessee is ranked as one of the worse cities in the US. Autumn’s allergy season begins early August and rides through until the first hard frost. We deal with Ragweed pollen and mold spores all thanks to the perfect recipe our region cooks up with its lush vegetation, humid conditions, and other environmental issues. In my opinion, this year is worse than ever with nearly non-stop drippy noses, sneezing, and congestion going at our house.

Seasonal terrorists tourist traffic making it impossible to visit my Smoky Mountains. If heavy the congestion isn’t enough to drive me nuts, then it’s seeing the hordes of people that try to pull off at inappropriate places to view wildlife and worse still are the dozen or so really dumb people who try to approach the bear. I say let’s lock people like that up for the safety of others.

It’s dreadful. Everything is basically dying. After all the leaves drop, the earth’s mute and drab shades create a dismal atmosphere.

Shorter days. With autumn’s arrival the days grow shorter and shorter until night shows up around dinner time when the dark curtain begins to drop for the evening. The equinox part of fall certainly doesn’t feel equal.

Daylight Savings Time. Another autumn pet peeve. This is totally useless and stupid. All this does is tick people off by further shortening daylight and it messes up one’s internal clock for days.

It’s the Ber season! All I’m thinking is winter is coming with seemingly no end to the cold weather.

Oh yeah, one final bah-hum-bug to fall is its the hurry season where you see Halloween and Christmas merchandise almost intertwined.

There you have it, my 6 reasons plus one more on why I don’t like autumn. I don’t want to end things on a sour note because your mental health is important to me. How about some cheery sunflowers to brighten your mood?

Happy Fall

You weren’t expecting another post from me this soon. I surprised myself, but I thought, “Why not?” I’m saying goodbye to summer today, as the first day of fall ushers in. I am happy for the season change. Mother Nature hasn’t gotten on board with things quite yet, but she’ll get there. Meanwhile, I’ll patiently take in the last of the warm days as I await that short romance of autumn we get here in East Tennessee. I always say it feels like we jump straight from the heat to freezing weather. It seems like the mild temperature seasons last only briefly. The Bible tells us there is a season for everything and now is time for all things autumn.

We’re a long, long way from looking like my drawing but it’s fun to dream about these sort of days to come.

My posts don’t quite feel complete unless there’s music. Feel free to sip on a pumpkin spice latte. Who cares if it’s still too warm outside, just soak up the pleasure of relaxing to a bit of cozy jazz instrumentals.

Have a blessed, beautiful day!

I mainly used the watercolor brushes on the pumpkins, spatters created with Spraypaints effect using Splatter brush, and the phrase I used Lettering brush called Harlequin
I used Inking brushes called Marker and Round Marker on the pumpkins. The tiny leaves border I created using Organic brush Snow Gum in fall colors. I gave the brown background texture by using the Materials brush called Blackwood, and finally for the phrase I used the Lettering brush called Buttercup. The slight neon red shading I used the Luminance brush called Lightpen

Summer’s Almost Gone

This week’s theme is whatever music moves you!

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! This is a no theme week. You’d never know with the heat lingering that the change in seasons is a couple of days away, but despite what the thermometer is reading Summer is almost gone. I found a short playlist that I created and never shared and fits perfectly with my thoughts.

Track list: 1. Summer’s Almost Gone – The Doors 2. It’s Over – ELO 3. Seasons in the Sun – Westlife 4. Time Stands Still – Rush 5. Bus Stop – The Hollies

I want to encourage everyone, if you add your link to please make an honest effort to visit, comment, or click ‘like” to the party guests who joined today. For some a small gesture means a lot. 😘

Are you ready? It’s now your turn to share what music moves you!

This is a music link up.  Music themes are only a suggestion. Your post must contain at least one song or your URL is marked “No Music”.

Stacy shared this song with us almost a year ago. Honestly, I don’t understand the lyrics and what it is all about but I like the feel of the music, so let’s replay Autumnsong by Manic Street Preachers!

Late September is our courtship month. This year marks 50 years of getting to know DH. I count my blessings to share every day with my husband and best friend!

This is a good time to close things out with a summer inspired drawing. You’d think I am someone who really likes spending time at the beach, but I’m not. I enjoy seeing the ocean, not sitting by the water. This summer scores of beach examples have crossed my FB feed captivating me to learn how to draw ocean scenes. Here’s a new art piece for you that I call Sunset Surf. Have a boogietastic week!

Thank you for stopping by. I turned comments off because it’s a day of rest and no words are needed.

For those looking for the linky code, it’ll be ready in the wee hours tomorrow morning when Monday’s Music Moves Me publishes. Have a blessed Sunday!

You Don’t Own Me

September is National Happy Cat month. You don’t have to have a cat or any animal to share some songs about these adorable four-legged creatures!

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! That’s just fabulous. I know anyone who has cats love their purrcious felines despite their claws flaws. This should be an interesting theme to listen to what everyone comes up for National Happy Cat Month.

I started off one way picking out song possibilities when one song took me another direction. Let’s giggle and shake with these cat parodies I came across.

I want to encourage everyone, if you add your link to please make an honest effort to visit, comment, or click ‘like” to the party guests who joined today. For some a small gesture means a lot. 😘

We Will Never Forget!

This memorial is made from the Twin Towers and is placed in a veterans cemetery near Fort Knox, Kentucky. It serves as a remembrance of those who died at the hands of terrorists for us to not forget.

How can we forget? I can not and do not want to forget. Many cannot even forgive, much less forget. Forgiveness is the first thing I did that day. I prayed for the wicked people who waged war against innocent people.  However, if you haven’t found the same forgiveness in your heart, then I implore you to learn how to forgive for your emotional, physical,  and spiritual health. Moving forward is the only way to keep from living in the past. I do think we should never forget this day for fear history may repeat itself and sadly, here in America we see the very thing we once stood against literally in our backyard. Radical socialists not only live with us but occupy elected positions. The radicals are clear they hate everyone who is not like them. It’s up to God loving, freedom fighting individuals to make this country great by protecting our culture, our constitution, our religious choices, … started by our founding fathers 250 years ago!

Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?

The sky was crystal blue on that September morn, while I sat stunned in silence in my living room. It was horrible, but I knew sitting glued to the TV with tear filled eyes that Americans would not allow themselves to be pinned to the ground, cowering in fear. We would do what we do best – stand strong and fight!

Have you thanked a police officer or other first responders lately? How about servicemen keeping our nation safe and free? If not, please do so when given the chance to show your gratitude. That small gesture means a lot to those who daily put the lives of others first above their own. God bless each one!

Although, I didn’t know her, I had a distant cousin killed at the Pentagon that day. Let’s say special prayers for all the families who lost so much that day in your thoughts and prayers.

I was inspired to write a poem in remembrance for the 9/11 victims and our country more than a decade ago that I’d like to share again with you.

Rise Up To Never Stay Down

© 2012 Cathy Kennedy

Buildings fell down

Lives forever torn

The world forever stunned

A nation wept

That fatal September morn

 Dazed by surreality

 Our emotions reeled

Shattered lives tear filled eyes

Through the chaos we soared

Doing the unexpected

 It was not a chore.

Race, religion, nor politics

Made no difference

 Standing shoulder-to-shoulder

 Like brother and sister

We helped one another)

Across this country

Along her borders

Far across the sea

Through prayers and thoughts

 Hearts and hands

Joined in unity

The Evil One did not win

Our Nation weakened?

She became a beacon

Hope, strength, endurance

To all who seek her

Courage and pride

That’s the American way

 Handed from our forefathers

To stand against our enemy

Pushing to rise up to never stay down

This is an old post I published 13 years ago for the Wordless Wednesday community that I slightly modified and edited. I haven’t honored the memory of that day on my site every year because it’s so painful. This year that changed with the political climate trying to to keep it from calling the tragedy what it is, a terrorist attack. Let’s not allow future generations to buy the lies that this was our fault or other twisted versions of the story. We can keep the truth alive by sharing and remembering. We will never forget!

Lost in the 70s Again

This week’s theme is whatever music moves you!

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! Here in the US, it’s Labor Day. To honor the working class folks this song is for you!

This was the theme music for the 1980s movie, 9 to 5. What a fun flick! If you have never watched, then you just might like to give it a try. Gosh, it feels so strange not having Miss Dolly in our world anymore!

For me, Labor Day weekend is the unofficial end of Summer which means I am returning the party back to Mondays once again. As for my posting schedule that’s still up in the air. Kicking things off for the first full week of September, I want to invite you to hop in the ole DeLorean to go back to the 70s!

I’m sharing a single artist that I’m not too familiar with the exception of their two hit songs, Magic and January. I shared both on my site in the past. Magic is the most prominent of the two in my memories. On the below YouTube generated playlist you’ll find both songs. It’s quite long, but makes for good background music, just click play to enjoy it non-stop!

Do you have any favorite Pilot songs?

I want to encourage everyone, if you add your link to please make an honest effort to visit, comment, or click ‘like” to the party guests who joined today. For some a small gesture means a lot. 😘

My Sep 1st BOTB is still open for votes for anyone who hasn’t. The polls close at noon today. Tomorrow, I’ll show my pick and post the winner in last week’s comments. Enjoy your holiday weekend, if you’re one of the lucky ones. It gives us a four day break from the usual grind. That wraps up things this time, y’all have a boogietastic week!

I call my new painting, Mountain Lake Sunrise. The first image is the original Procreate and the second slide is the Brushstrokes (oil brush filter) creation. Sometimes with Brushstrokes small details like the birds in the Procreate artwork nearly disappears. To fix that, I used Pixelmator Pro photo editor to paint the bird silhouettes. I didn’t like the auto placement of my signature in Brushstrokes, so I removed it and used Pixelmator to put it in the left corner close to the bottom of the pine tree.

God’s Not Dead

Songs to lift the body, soul, and mind!

We live in a world that seems hopeless and confused. The division we see amongst ourselves is higher than ever. This is Satan working. As a Christian, I know these things and I have hope eternal. God is not dead!

In John 11:25, Jesus tells us…

I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live… John 11:25

Don’t give room in your heart or mind to evil things, but instead turn to Jesus, the Light of the world and if you do, He will open your eyes with crystal clear clarity to see through the chaos and know the truth.

I am switching back to my regular posting schedule. I truly love sharing inspiring music and scripture that speaks to me on Sundays. I’m quite unprepared to publish Sunday Songs for the next couple of months, just so you’ll know to not expect to see me here regularly for awhile.

Below is your early admission ticket to the 4M party. The door is open to anyone with music to share, so come join the fun!

Thank you for stopping by. I turned comments off because it's a day of rest and no words are needed. I’ll be back in the morning with Monday’s Music Moves Me. Have a blessed Sunday!

Weather With You BOTB

Crowded House original reference only, not for voting consideration

Common proverbs state that “Fair on September 1st, fair for the month,” while heavy rains in September are said to bring drought later.   Additionally, “Thunder in September indicates a good crop of grains and fruits the next year,” and a storm from the south on September 19th may signal a mild winter.

I don’t remember Crowded House from the 90s, so finding Weather With You a pleasant surprise. September is a transitional month for the seasons, as we say goodbye to summer and hello to autumn. My song pick has nothing to do with the elements outside your window, but about relationships. I found two new unknown, at least to me, cover artists for you, so please listen, decide who you like best, and leave your pick in comments.

#1 UK musician, Jay Clark

Jay Clark Music UK

#2 Australians duo team Sam + Sam

Sam + Sam

Polls close at noon (ET) on the 7th!

I hope you had fun listening. Now, it’s up to you to tell me in comments who you like and why (optional), then next week on the 8th I’ll drop the results in my comments.

At the top of this page on my main menu, you’ll see page dedicated for BOTB where you’ll find a list of possible bloggers participating today. This is CAAC signing off, have a bandtastic day!

Boston

It’s the end of the month, summer is drawing to an end unofficially. Share songs that make you think of the end of summer.

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! I messed things up a few weeks ago with my posts and am still trying to right that wrong on my end. Y’all are okay. Anyway this week I thought it would be fun to share songs that make you think of summer’s end. Luckily, my original music discovery works quite well and am going to continue forward.

This is a weird coincidence, really. Going through my private saved YouTube playlists, one was a four Boston songs set. Instead of keeping it, I removed it and found Boston’s self-titled debut album that included three of my original picks. Here’s the weird part. This album hit a new milestone with their 50th anniversary on August 25. I couldn’t have planned this any better. Let’s get on the dance floor with Boston!

Everyone has time restraints. Please if you can, when you add your link to make an honest effort to visit, comment, or click ‘like” to let your bloggy friend know you stopped by. For some a small gesture means a lot. Are you ready? It’s now your turn to share what music moves you!

This month, my fellow BOTBers bud, Stephen added another candle to his birthday cake on the 8th.  Here’s to many more, my friend!!  Speaking of BOTB, watch for my newest showdown to pop up on the 1st!

Before I go, I know everyone on the planet knows about Dolly Parton’s passing this past Tuesday. I’m genuinely saddened. To honor her I will leave you with one of her sweetest songs she wrote for Porter Wagoner when she left him professionally and you know, if you’re like me then part of you will always love Dolly, too.

My prayers are to the Parton family. I hope the memories you have of Dolly lift your hearts and may God’s presence give you the strength and comfort you need.

Rest in peace Dolly!

I’m moving 4M back to Mondays next week, so swing by to boogie with me on the 7th. In the meantime, I invite you to scoot over on Tuesday for a new installment of Battle of the Bands. Have a boogietastic week!Save
