THEO BIERKENS wins Best Kamera

KÃķln

08.09.2026

Theo Bierkens NSC wins best camera award at Der Deutsche Fernsehpreis 2026 for his work on 'Sturm kommt auf'. Jury rapport: Theo Bierkens captures the setting of the story in beautiful yet stark landscape imagery, which fits perfectly. Indeed, "Sturm kommt auf" is far removed from clichÃĐd, kitschy Heimatfilm conventions. At the forefront are the superbly portrayed characters, who bring the political dimension of the unsettling narrative closer to the audience.

Congratulations Theo Bierkens!

CLAIRE PIJMAN

Amsterdam - Gerlinda Heywegen

28.09.2025

It really wasn’t self-evident that she would become a filmmaker. That is what D.O.P. Claire Pijman says, end of June 2025 in her home in Amsterdam’s the De Pijp quarter. But she had to, it could not be any other way. Her eye for detail, the fact that she loves looking at people and wants to capture them as well in moving images – not photos – takes her far into Asia and close to home. As long as she can make films. With her new feature-length documentary, een vrouw als monique, Pijman might just have made one of the most truly interesting films of the year.

2025 Robby MÞller Award goes to LOL CRAWLEY BSC

NSC/IFFR

21.11.2024

We’re proud to announce the recipient of our sixth annual Roby MÞller Award: British cinematographer Lol Crawley, most recently known for Brady Corbet’s epic post-war drama The Brutalist (2024). The award honours the behind-the-lens artistry of image makers who, in the spirit of the late Dutch cinematographer Robby MÞller, have created a striking visual language throughout their work. During IFFR 2025, Crawley will give an IFFR Talk on his work, accompanied by a screening of The Brutalist, which marks the Dutch premiere of the film.

The jury for this year’s Robby MÞller Award noted: “Lol Crawley’s camera is dedicated to the story and characters in a way that is both humble and ardent. It forms a close, dynamic relationship with them. His sensual cinematography embraces the environment as unpredictable and fluid and aims to align with its flow rather than confine it to a predefined frame.”
