Holy Earrings!

The boys were unpleasantly shocked to see me wearing earrings today, since it is a rare occassion that I accessorize myself. All Lance could do was give a puzzled stare at these odd apparatuses hanging from my lobes. Brian immediately scolded me, "Mom, you can't put holes in yourself! You'll break your bones!"

This is the same child that ran over to me (excitedly, I might add) after I tumbled down the staircase and ended in a heap on the floor. He shouted hopefully, "Did you break a bone like Alison?!" (Alison, our neighbor, took the same unfortunate tumble down our stairs... A trip that ended in a cast.) I'm happy to report that I just had a toe-ache for the next few days, which Brian wasn't the least bit sympathetic toward.

You've Got a Friend (or not)

Lance has had a rough week. The neighbor girls came over on Thursday. It was a big job for him to keep his toys from getting into the wrong hands... He had to sit in his truck, hold onto his hammer with one hand, meanwhile sticking his other hand out of the window of the truck in order to pull his stroller along with him. That's really not as easy as you may think. I have a feeling Lance's list of friends is going to remain rather short for awhile.

Lance's New Toy

I took the boys to a garage sale today. As we got near, I saw it.. and I knew there was no way we would leave without it. A pink doll stroller with pink and purple hearts all over it. We walked up; Lance quickly spotted it. He ran as fast as his chunky legs would carry him and began admiring it. He took it for a test drive all around the driveway, and up and down the sidewalks. He greatly approved. When I turned my back, he tried to climb in for a test ride. Of course, he got stuck with only one foot in, but it did not deter him. He had to have it. I coughed up the $2 and he pushed it all the way home. He found an unsuspecting teddy bear and a baby doll and strapped them in... they have seen every nook and cranny of our house (and had a few mishaps along the way). Brian the Tormentor has given the stroller a few spins too.. about 3 steps ahead of Lance with Lance screaming "MY STWOLLER!" right behind him.

SuperGranny

Grandma (aka: Supergranny) undertook the task of potty training the almost 3-year old (2 years, 10 months and counting..). Lance stayed at grandma's for 4 days, and made significant progress. He now knows how to potty on a tree.

For all interested parties:
Potty-Training, by SuperGranny
Let child run buck naked outside. Let child pee where ever he has the urge. (Works for poop too, but beware of meddling farm dog who finds this a scrumptious treat. Yes, it happened.) Next, transition child from tree to potty chair.

Sounds easy enough, doesn't it?

Lance now alerts us to his bodily urges by shouting "Potty on twee!" He then runs to the nearest tree to do his duty (or pees off the front step, or anywhere else that pleases him). As for the transition to the potty chair.... Well, at the slightest mention of the potty chair, we hear a chorus of "NO NO NO!! Potty on twee!" This would be fine, except for the fact that said child has now returned to the city and away from grandma's country home.

Last night, he began shouting "Potty on twee!"

My thoughts: This is my house and my tree... if he wants to potty on it, well, think of the money we'll save on watering. Ok, let's go for it.

So I took the boy out buck naked and performed the supergranny method. Unfortunately, the neighbor was outside and watched in polite horror as my nude child ran outside to align himself with the tree. He then got distracted by the swing set and began climbing. I quickly snatched him up and ran back inside to consult with supergranny.

Revisions to supergranny method to follow at a later date...

UPDATES

UPDATES...

1) Yes, we found the key. It was discreetly hidden in a pile of toys that were (unbeknownst to overabundant children) bound for the Salvation Army.

2) I still hold the Supernanny title. Brian continues to sleep in his own bed. Ok, maybe change that to Sortagoodnanny. Ocassionally, he makes midnight visits to our room. Just to see if he can get back in while our defenses are down.

3) I got my glasses fixed. (Did I blog about that?) As I step out of the shower a couple weeks back, Lance handed me my glasses, both pieces, and said, "Thanks!" New frames and $129 later...

4) Lance is finally potty-trained. (Ok, one little white lie. But he does tell me when he needs to be changed now. "Mommy, dia-pah!")
