In later leather fine bindings by “Bayntun-Riviere.” Full dark green morocco leather with gilt line panelled boards, raised banding and gilt lettering and decorations to spines. Full gilt page edges, marbled endpapers and gilt inner dentelles. A stunning set. Covers fine. A couple of neat pencil inscriptions to prelims of vol.1. Some occasional minor handling marks to pages, some minor light foxing to titles/prelims. Else pages overall very clean and tight. An excellent set. 3 half-titles. 1 sketch map (frontispiece to vol. 1 ). 303 pp. / 297 pp. / 320 pp. Very scarce. It was published in an edition of only 1,000 copies on 4 November 1878. It was never reprinted in its original three-volume form.

Finely bound, very likely for the author, in contemporary full tan calf, the spine with raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Black morocco label, gilt. Boards with decorative blind and gilt tooled panels. Boards with bevelled edges and gilt tooling to the very edges. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt. A very good copy of this rare, privately issued first edition. VG copies, all lightly rubbed to edges, corners bumped, each has light marks of (probably library) label removal to cover. Vol. 1 contains bookplate of collector Paul Lemperly, all have ink name to dark ffep. Slipcase is VG with light wear to edges and corners. A lovely set. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1866.

Slightly later quarter calf with vellum tips and marbled paper over boards, raised bands, spines in six panels, title in gilt to second panel, date to foot, remaining panels with volute and fleuron panel in black, top edges stained red, covers from the parts used as pastedowns and free endpapers. Spines rubbed and slightly dulled, some light fading to marbled paper to upper covers, internally some light off setting as usual, hint of browning to text, but generally quite bright and clean. Inscribed by Steadman on the dedication page in the year of publication, with characteristic flourishes; "Eleanor. Its only paper. Ralph (Steadman that is). 10. 12. 75". Mono illustrations throughout by Steadman. Original black stiff card binding with a mono illustration to the front panel and purple and white lettering. A little bumping to the corners but overall a very good copy.

Printed for J. G & F. Rivington, London & sold by Ridge, Worcester.,1834. FIRST (AND ONLY) EDITION. 4to. INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR - "To Col. Bainbridge/With the authors best regards" on front paste down. Errata slip loosely inserted. Litho frontis and one litho illustration in the text, both with original tissue guard. Original paper covered boards with litho illustration to front board. Spine heavily chipped. Four holes to front board, penetrating through to the first few pages. Boards rubbed and bumped to edges. Foxing throughout. A good copy of a scarce work.

From a total edition of 250 copies this number 34/50 with hand finished title and initial letters, bound in parchment. Overall size c.8.7/8 x 6.3/4 inches. c.22 x 17 cm. pps. 48. The German text was written on the lithographic stones by Heinz Jurgen and printed by A.Molling & Co. in Hannover. Illustrated with 10 full page woodcuts by Adam Weber. A presentation copy from the author on the front free end-paper and signed by him on the colophon. A near fine copy.

Limited Edition of 1000 numbered copies , each with an original engraving printed by wood block signed and numbered by the artist. This copy No.62. 4to, pp205 with the text printed on the recto page only, complete with 16 tipped in colour woodcuts each with a decorative border to page underneath and limitation print. Hardcover issued without DJ housed in solander box. The solander box bound in dark grey/blue cloth with red leather title label with gilt titles to spine in very good condition with a few strips of sunning to front. The book itself beautifully bound with quarter vellum spine with 22 carat gold titles and vellum tips over red paper covered boards with pictorial front board blocked in three metallic foils. Binding in near fine condition. Inside all pages and plates with top edge gilt in excellent near fine condition. A very nice copy. This is a heavy book and may require extra postage for overseas orders.
