Registration for classes
When registering for classes for 2018-2019, enroll in your current level. It is highly likely that your level will change next year, but enroll for the class you are currently taking and the fine arts department will place you in the appropriate level after assessments. Assessments take place in class before Spring Break.

Class/Uniform Expectations Quarter 3
Place dance bags and backpacks inside the crate and tuck excess tightly along the choir room wall (not outside the dance room). Do not leave them in the bathroom.
Enter immediately and quietly. Remain silent in the hallway.
Put your water bottles along the front mirror. If you want water during class, you need to bring them into the classroom.
Mon/Tues/Fri:
Bring in your binder, a red pen, a blue/black pen, and any homework.
Take a bell work sheet from the music stand. Write down any notes AND/OR, begin your quiz, if you have one.
When you have finished writing, stretch at the barre.
Block:
No binders or writing implements.
Go immediately to the barre, sit quietly, and begin to stretch.
Uniform:
Mon/Tues/Fri: jazz attire, i.e., leo, pink tights, black footless tights, jazz shoes, bun, shorts.
Block: ballet attire, i.e., leo, pink tights, ballet slippers, bun, wrap skirt.
COMING IN UNIFORM SHOWS RESPECT TO THE ART FORM, YOUR TEACHER, AND YOURSELF.

This week we are conditioning specifically for jumps and turns, in addition, to building on our improv choreography. Dancer, don't dress out, but wear something you can move in that's dresscode! MINI CHARGER DANCE CAMP -- Saturday, September 16th, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All elementary students from grades K-8th are invited to the BFHS Mini Charger Dance Camp! This will be a day of learning routines, playing games, and making new friends at the Benjamin Franklin High School Campus. Boys and girls invited. Registration $25.00 for the first child and $20.00 for each additional sibling. Mini Charger Dancers will receive a complimentary T-shirt with the price of registration and an opportunity to perform at the BFHS JV football game on September 21st. We look forward to seeing you all there! Registration and Waiver Forms are below. Fill out both and bring them and your registration fee to the high school front office at 18864 E. Grade Book Issues
The school grade book was having a few issues today, so look for updates tomorrow. Also, remember this is the beginning of the year, so one bad quiz grade may lower your total grade more significantly. Don't fret, study hard, keep up the good work, and come in to make up missing assignments!

We will now have an equipment cart to stow your bags and belongings during class. Please place all your things in the cart!

Why new uniform colors? Great question!
- Many students had belongings accidentally picked up or lost last year. We want to make certain your property is returned to you! Different colored leotards allow us to know which classes need their things returned. There are fewer kids with the same leotard, so it is easier to locate the owner.
- Different colored leotards are common procedure with ballet levels. We have begun to usher this into our program.
- Having different colored leotards as a uniform allows those leotards to act as another costume option for the students. Then, the whole class has a color and is set apart from a different level.
- Different colors give a sense of pride in working hard for the next level. Students will be excited when they move up into a new color.
Class fees or uniform purchases should never be the reason why a student cannot take dance class. If finances are presenting an obstacle, please contact Miss McLeod on the contact page!
Class Uniforms! -- You do not have to change out the first day of school.
All class uniforms are due by Friday, August 4th at the latest. Allowances will be made for items on backorder, if proof of purchase is sent before Friday, July 28th. Please email your receipts as proof of purchase to Miss McLeod.

Knowing the steps is not enough; it would be like learning words without being taught how to use them well.
CHOREOGRAPHY:
Painters study the brush strokes of great painters to learn how to paint. You will learn both classical and contemporary choreography.
PERFORMANCE:
Art cannot live in a vacuum. It is created for show. Learning to dance must be a generous enterprise; expect to perform in front of others.
ASSESSMENT:
In order to truly learn something, you must test you knowledge and skill in that subject. All dance classes will have quarterly assessments to test the quantity of vocabulary a dancer has mastered and the quality of his technique.
